Ametrine
Traditional Octagon cut Ametrine
Ametrine is a wonderful gebination of Amethyst and Citrine.
Only found in the Anahi Mine in Bolivia, natural Ametrine is begeing increasingly rare.Somesuppliers have indicated that the Ametrine mines have run out. Quality material is now very difficult to obtain. The price for natural Ametrine is on the rise.
Due to the scarcity of material, both heat enhanced natural quartz, and synthetic ametrine are on the market and as they are optically and physically like Nature's product, sophisticated gemological testing is necessary to detect them. Consider carefully when buying a gem that you only purchase a natural mined from the earth gem that will increase in value.
Checker Board Cut Ametrine Fancy Cut Amatrine wings Ametrine with mixed colors
Ametrine is most typically faceted in a rectangular shape with a 50/50 pairing of amethyst and citrine. Sometimes a checkerboard pattern of facets is added to the top to increase light reflection. Ametrine can also be cut to blend the two colors so that the resulting stone is a mix of yellow, purple, and peach tones throughout the stone. Ametrine is also popular among artistic cutters and carvers who play with the colors, creating landscapes in the stone.
More recently, however; some cutters have begun to cut a variety of shapes, many of which create internal reflections that blend the yellow and purple into attractive shades of rosy gold and mauve, or create mosaic-like flashes of both yellow and purple.Shown inthe beautiful example below.
