I am a self-admitted quality stroller fanatic and have fallen in love with my new Joovy Caboose stroller. I love my Peg Perego Venezia for its maneuverability and reversible handle (keeps my daughter out of the Florida sun). I have coped with the small basket and no parent tray because of all of the Venezia's positives. However, pregnant with a second child, I knew I would need to find a stroller to hold bothchildren (27 months apart).
I researched and investigated as many options as I could find...or so I thought. I discounted the Graco DuoGlider because my daughter is tall for her age and her feet could touch the ground while sitting in the shallow front seat. I finally chose the Safety 1st Two Way Tandem stroller (same as the Eddie Bauer model) because I loved the nice deep seats and the fact that the front seat can be turned around to face the back seat. I thought I was all set for strolling through stores and the mall once my newborn arrived...wrong!
The Safety 1st double stroller was wonderful except for one major thing - I could not steer it at all! In fact, it was sometimes hard to even make it go in a straight line on a wide walkway -- let alone turn sharp corners in a store. Full size double strollers are long and are often hard to maneuver due to their size. I had to find something else.
Online research led me to the sit and stand models of strollers. I read more positive gements about the Joovy Caboose than the Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand so I went to Babies R Us and "test drove" the Joovy. I bought it that day! It was the best $149 I have ever spent! I love using it so much that I am almost creating opportunities to use it.TheJoovy Caboosemaneuvers just like a single stroller but holds two children. The universal carseat holder is simple and effective for many, many styles of carseats. A restraining strap also keeps the carseat nice and secure (although it isn't really needed for travels on flat surfaces such as inside a store). Best of all, my 2-1/2 year old can sit facing backwards or stand facing forwards or backwards and thinks it is a lot of fun to ride in. I have even had her sit facing forwards with her feet in the basket. And during the times when someone is holding my 3-month-old son, I can prop his carseat in the standing area and let my daughter ride up front. She thinks it is fun to climb in underneath the carseat holder.
To gepensate for the lack of a parent tray (it would get in the way of the standing child), I purchased at Babies R Us a simple cup holderfor my drink(I will buy another one tohold my toddler's sippy cup). And I found a swivel "S" hook tothat I use to hang my diaper bagon the stroller handle.
The basket is not big and is not easy to access, but I was already used to that in my Peg Perego.
I like the fact that the JoovyCaboose has a 5 point harness for the front seat. It has one seatbelt for the toddler seat, but I wish the straps were longer. Until the front seat is fully upright (after the carseat is not being used and the baby does not need to be semi-reclined), my daughter will not be able to use the seatbelt since it is meant to be used when the back seat is right up behind the front seat. To solve that problem, I make sure that my daughter is holding on tight with both hands and I have a long strap that I use to tie onto the stroller frame as a makeshift seatbelt for when she is not obediently staying in the stroller on her own.
Those things being set aside, I LOVE my Joovy Caboose for being so lightweight, maneuverable, easy to open/close, and fun to push. When searching for a double stroller, consider this style of stroller. Babies R Us carries the Joovy and Target carries the Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand. Test drive them in the stores and then check out the good deals on okay. This style of double stroller might work as well for you as it does for me!
