Vintage Plastic and Paper Mache duck decoys

We are often asked to look at vintage "wood" duck decoys that someone bought at anestate sale.Many of thesehave been "planted" by seller or auction house and are cheap mass produced chinese decoys that should sell for less than $20. If you are buying decoys at an estate sale, be sure you know what you are buying. To pay several hundred dollars for something that only costs $10 is a crime, but it happens all the time.
Vintage plastic - non blow molded decoys such as Victor, Tex Wirtz, Majestic, Trendecoy, Greenhead, and many others are quite collectible today and are frequently sold on okay.
Cork and wood decoys by LL Bean, Herters, and others are also quite collectible.
Paper mache decoys vary widely in price and condition. Some are worth hundreds of dollars and others are worth little or nothing.
An excellent reference for non wooden decoy collecting is "NORTH AMERICAN FACTORY DECOYS" by Kenneth L. Trayer. Author researched extensively and there are many excellent photos and references.
